28 January 2025 COE Distignuished Professor Kaeli and Research Team Win Top Paper of 2024 for GPU-Based Acceleration of Homomorphic Encryption

"GME: GPU-based Microarchitectural Extentensions to Accelerate Homomorphic Encryption," which was published in the proceedings of the 56th Annual IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Microarchitecture was selected by the 2024 Top Picks Committee as a top paper published in Hardware and Embedded Security in 2024. This was a multi-institutional effort led by Northeastern PhD Kaustubh Shividkar, and invovled two undergraduate students (Michael Shen and Alexander Ingare), as well as researchers from BU, KAIST, and University of Murcia. 19 October 2023 Electrical and Computer Engineering Annual Report 2022-2023

It is my great pleasure to report that the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University continued its march to greater heights in 2022-2023. Our faculty were awarded over $45 million in research grants. This year, Professor Ali Abur was elected a Member of the National Academy of Engineering—a distinct honor we are all proud to announce. Dean Gregory Abowd was awarded the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction (SIGCHI) Lifetime Research Award. Prof. Kevin Fu became a Fellow of AAAS and ACM, Prof. Raymond Fu, Fellow of ACM, Prof. Vincent Harris, Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, and Associate Prof. Yongmin Liu became a Fellow of Optica and SPIE. This year also saw several of our assistant professors recognized through early-career awards.

23 April 2023 Huskies Earn Record Numbers of NSF Graduate Research Fellowships

Established in 1952, the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF-GRFP) was created to support aspiring scientists and engineers pursuing graduate degrees and cutting-edge research in STEM fields. Each year, more than 12,000 graduate and undergraduate students apply for the NSF-GRFP. The benefits of the award include generous financial support and participation in a network of distinguished alumni, more than 440 of whom are members of the National Academy of Sciences. This year, a record-breaking 23 Huskies were selected for this fellowship; another ten earned honorable mentions. Congratulations to all of our undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni who earned fellowships and honorable mentions!

20 April 2023 ‘You are the role models.’ Northeastern celebrates achievement at 13th Annual Academic Honors Convocation

Northeastern celebrated the highest achievements of students and faculty at the 13th Annual Academic Honors Convocation in East Village on Thursday. A wide variety of achievements were highlighted, including two new faculty awards that recognized the university’s global commitment while emphasizing the theme of the day. “We have been the only university that I know of that has built the global university system—the only university that is allowing our students to roam,” Northeastern President Joseph E. Aoun said in his closing remarks. “The end-game is leadership and impact. You have demonstrated leadership in your fields. And you have demonstrated impact. So you are the role models and from now on this is what we’re all about: Impacting the world, being engaged with the world and trying to make it a better world.”
